Polymerized ionic liquids or poly(ionic liquid)s (PILs) are achieving increasing attention very recently due to their enhanced mechanical stability, improved processability and spatial controllability compared with ionic liquids.1-3 As a class of innovative and versatile polyelectrolytes, variable applications of PILs have been successfully realized on the basis of their unique properties, such as solid ion conductor, powerful dispersant and stabilizer for nanoparticle catalysts, absorbent, precursor for porous polymers and carbon materials.4 However, even though a lot of efforts have been devoted to the synthesis and applications, PILs nanoparticles with hierarchical nanostructures such as hollow, core-shell and double shell structures, and enhanced material performance are still highly demanded, but rarely reported, which mainly lies in the high difficulty in controlling the soft but charged polymeric nature of PILs.5In this presentation, a novel hydrophobic@hydrophilic double shell nanosphere constructed by PILs and mesoporous silica layer respectively was reported. The size and shell thickness of the nanosphere are tunable between 35-140 nm and 8-25 nm respectively. The synthesis procedure and related TEM image are shown in Figure 1. Through electric interactions between the PILs and metal salts, Pt nanoparticles (NPs) with sizes of ~2 nm can be incorporated into the PILs layer (Figure 1B right). This hydrophobic@hydrophilic double shell nanospheres with Pt NPs can act as efficient nanoreactor for oxidation of primary aromatic alcohol in water. Figure 1  .
