Fast pyrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass for the production of transportable liquid (bio-oil) is a promising alternative to replace petroleum feedstock. While great progress has been made for understanding and controlling the breakdown chemistry of the major components such as cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin, the impact of the association between lignin and carbohydrate is still unclear. In this work, we defined the Lignin/Carbohydrate (L/C) interface to represent such structure, extracting and characterization the natural L/C interface extracts, chose the commercial available compound to represent L/C interface, and study the pyrolysis products distribution and unveil the breakdown chemistry of it.
