A matrix isolation and computational study of both copper(II) acetylacetonate, Cu(acac)2, and zinc(II) acetylacetonate, Zn(acac)2, with ozone was performed. Each compound was co-deposited with ozone in either a twin or merged jet set-up onto a CsI cold window and trapped in an argon matrix held at approximately 14K. Infrared spectroscopy was implemented to identify and study emerging intermediate peaks. Preliminary studies of the reaction of Cu(acac)2 with ozone have yielded no observable intermediate peaks, while the reaction of Zn(acac)2 with ozone provided numerous peaks located at 2891, 1802, 1785, 1782, 1779, 1766, 1750, 1734, and 1725 cm-1. Theoretical calculations of both parent compounds were executed to provide wavenumber data and optimize structures. Theoretical calculations proved to be successful within a 3% range when compared to literature references.
