The term �critical point� appears in Sandra Greer's third publication, which reports the Ar-CH4 phase diagram as determined by x-ray diffraction, and it turns up in essentially all of her research papers since then.   The path of this �critical line� is not a simple one.  It encompasses experimental investigations of liquid-liquid phase separation, thermal expansion, surface tension, chemical reactions, polymerization, and transport phenomena involving methods such as diverse as calorimetry, densitometry, and small-angle neutron scattering and systems as diverse as liquid mixtures of isobutyric acid + water, liquid sulfur, a-methylstyrene and actin.  It is the character of all this work that the experiments have often been challenging, requiring exacting control of conditions and high sensitivity, and the analysis has been rigorous and painstaking. The experiments have been focused at exploring and resolving significant statistical mechanical problems; they have elucidated the universality of critical phenomena.
