This report will highlight recent advancements from this laboratory in the activation of small molecules, specifically O2, S8 and Se, by nickel(I) coordination complexes. Emphasis is placed on elucidating the electronic and geometric structures of reactive intermediates and correlating these structures with chemical reactivity, with a focus on C-H oxidation.
