Fluorescent proteins (FP) used as genetically encoded fluorescent labels have revolutionized bioimaging techniques. The photocycle  of FPs include rich excited state dynamics, radiationless transitions, proton transfer, as well as photoinduced reduction/oxidation.  The latter are important for understanding photostability and phototoxicity; these processes are also utilized in photoconversion techniques.  I will present results of first-principle calculations of the processes involving electron transfer, with an emphasis on their energetics and  spectroscopic signatures.
