The novel carbon-metal oxide composite supported Ru-modified Ni catalysts were prepared using the sol-gel method. The activities and stabilities of these catalysts for hydrothermal gasification of phenol water were investigated at 350 oC, 20 MPa and a liquid hourly space velocity(LHSV) of 48 h-1 in a fixed-bed flow reactor. It was found that loading Ru stabilized catalysts for hydrothermal gasification on the basis of results of XRD measurement and nitrogen adsorption measurement. In addition, the prepared Ru-modified catalysts exhibited higher activities and stabilities than Ni catalysts without Ru for hydrothermal gasification of phenol water. In this work, 5Ru-16N48C31T catalyst showed the highest conversion and carbon recovery.
