Our focus is on the controlled binding of nanostructures to mica, silicon, and glass surfaces.  In particular, CMPV, cow pea mosaic virus, shows randomly orientated binding patterns on mica, and the nanostructures exhibit complex networks. We chose to investigate the limit of surface binding, as this is important for determining surface density.  We found that the theoretical jamming limit for spherical structures can be used to explain the binding patterns that we see on mica.  We are developing a process for CMPV binding on silicon surfaces, and we will report on our method.  AFM, atomic force microscope images were used to characterize the surface and image J software was used to calculate surface coverage.
