Mathematics is the core of scientific understanding of the world. It plays an important role in teaching, research and service. Many higher education institutions require all students to enroll in mathematics and natural sciences as part of the requirement of general education. Mathematics proficiency is the keystone for students to excel in the study of chemistry. In order to enhance students' conceptual understanding in chemistry, we study students' abilities in understanding mathematical concepts and applying mathematical knowledge to chemistry. The aim of this paper is to present the teaching and learning of chemistry by using mathematics models for general education purposes in Macau.
