A new approach to screening for cardiovascular disease (CVD) is introduced incorporating the principles of analytical chemistry where the circulatory system is described as a form of column chromatography where the stationary phase is the arterial wall and the mobile phase is the circulating blood.  Components of the blood serve as internal probes of an individual's 'cardiovascular chemistry'.  The first clinical study involved separating lipoprotein subclasses by density.  Multidimensional analysis of the density profile was found to be 100% accurate using a cohort of subjects with and without CVD.  The second clinical study incorporates high performance capillary gel electrophoresis to separate serum proteins according to size to generate a size profile to be used for primordial screening for young adults in a prevention mode.  Recent encouraging findings using this method will be presented.
