Direct arylation chemistry has received increase interest recently as an efficient method for the synthesis of conjugated small molecules and polymers. Silole-containing small molecules and polymers are also of great interest due to their unique optical and electronic properties, and their potential application in organic electroluminescent devices. However, synthetic methods for silole-containing small molecules and polymers are rather limited, and furthermore, derivatization of the silole compounds are less tolerable to nucleophilic reagents. We are interested in a one-step direct synthesis of silole-containing molecules with functionality at the 2,5-position that are capable of doing direct arylation chemistry to make more complex molecules and polymers. A series of compounds and their reactivity in the direct arylation chemistry will be presented. .
