The electrochemical polymerization of various metal tetraaminophthalocyanines (TAPcs) leads to the formation of n-doped conductive films possessing unique electrochemical properties.  Various Ni, Co, and Cu TAPc polymers have been characterized by cyclic voltammetry, chronopotentiometry, chronoamperometry, and electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance techniques.  The NiTAPc and CuTAPc polymers exhibit the highest electronic conductivity and most favorable capacitance behavior.  Scanning electron microscopy of these films reveals a highly porous microstructure with fine features on the order of a few hundred nanometers, but the structural details vary with, among other things, polymerization rate, potential limits, film thickness, and charge state.  Materials fabricated via copolymerization of MTAPc derivatives with other polymerizable phthalocyanines exhibit interesting electrochemical behavior as well as enhanced electrolyte compatibility.  Capacitance properties and cycling stability of these systems under a variety of conditions will be discussed in detail.
