The properties and structures of gels from gelators derived from homologous series of derivatives of (R)-12-hydroxystearic acid will be presented.   Specifically, the gelators are (R)-N-alkyl-12-hydroxyoctadecylammonium salts and (R)-12-hydroxy-N-(?-hyroxyalkyl)octadecanamides.   Conductivity has been used to determine the minimum concentrations necessary to form the self-assembled fibrillar networks of the salt gels and high degrees of thixotropy have been found for some of the amide gels.  Correlations between gelator structures and gel properties will be discussed.
