Conjugated polymers based on 2,5-difunctionalized siloles are receiving great interest due to their unique optical and electronic properties, and their potential application in organic electroluminescent devices. However, synthetic methods for polysiloles are rather limited due to the difficulty in their preparation. We are interested in the one step direct synthesis of siloles, functionalized at 2,5-position with  different functional groups for various coupling reactions such as Suzuki coupling, Stille coupling, Hiyama-Denmark coupling and C-H activation reaction. The synthesis of a series of new NIR-absorbing silole containing conducting polymers and their optical, electronic properties will be discussed. These polymers will have low lying LUMO which will make them a good candidate for electron transfer material.
