Protein kinases are important mediators in intracellular signal transduction pathways and are known to play a key role in many human diseases. With over 500 kinases identified in the human kinome, understanding target biology and effect of kinase modulation on the cellular phenotype is extremely complex. This presentation will describe several examples where small molecule kinase inhibitors have been invaluable in identifying molecular targets within a cellular pathway and/or helping understand the impact of modulating those targets on efficacy and safety.
