Pulse radiolysis studies were carried out on [Co(dmgBF2)2(H2O)2] 1  (where dmgBF2  = difluoroboryldimethylglyoximato),  [Co(dmgBF2)2(H2O)(py)]�0.25CH3COCH32 , [Ru(bpy)2(tbtp)](PF6)2�3.75H2O 3  (where tbtp = 4,5,9,11,14-pentaaza-benzo<b>triphenylene), [Ru(pbt)2(L-pyr)Co(dmgBF2)2(H2O)](PF6)2�11H2O 4  (where pbt = 2-(2'-pyridyl)benzothiazole and L-pyr = (4-pyridine)oxazolo[4,5-f]phenanthroline), and [Ru(bpy)2(tbtp)Co(dmgBF2)2(H2O)](PF6)2�5H2O 5  inacetonitrile.Post-radiolysis absorbance spectra of complexes 1  and 2  were similar, and believed to result from the formation of a cobalt(I)-containing species,  which is in contrast with a different spectrum obtained from complex 3  (this isbelieved to result from the formation of a ruthenium(I) species). At 600 nm the transient spectra of complexes 4  and 5  (at 30 ns) were roughly similar with that of complex 3  at 9 �s.  We concluded that this is due to the decay of a ruthenium(I)-containing species without the corresponding formation of a cobalt(I)-containing species due to the electron being transferred to the bridging ligand prior to transfer to the cobalt(II) metal center in complexes 4  and 5 .
