The (NHC)AuIIINTf2Cl2 (NHC = IPr, IMes, ItBu, and ICy) complexes were prepared by reacting the corresponding trichloride (NHC)AuIIICl3 species with silver(I)triflimidate (AgNTf2) in dichloromethane. While (ItBu)AuIIINTf2Cl2 and (ICy)AuIIINTf2Cl2 show high stability under ambient conditions, the complexes (IMes)AuIIINTf2Cl2 and (IPr)AuIIINTf2Cl2 display thermal instability and must be synthesized and stored at low temperature (0oC). These synthetic procedures now allow for the facile access to this family of (NHC)AuIIINTf2Cl2 complexes and a survey of their catalytic activity.
