Development of organometallic strategies for C�H bond activation would have positive consequences in many areas of chemistry. Platinum-group complexes have proven successful in this transformation; however there is still little understood about the ligand role in activation. We are investigating a highly tunable (NCN)PtCl pincer complex in hopes of observing ligand promotion (or inhibition) of C�H bond activation. We report a number of chlorine abstraction experiments from [?-NCN-2,6-bis(diethylaminomethyl)-phenyl]chloro platinum (II), verified with proton NMR analysis. Spectroscopy showed most successful abstraction with 1.5 equivalents of Na[B(Arf)4] in benzene-d6.
