Schiff bases are common ligands in coordination chemistry. The transitions metal complexes of these ligands, especially those of platinum and palladium, have been shown in literature to have antitumor activity. This research proposes the synthesis and characterization of a class of Schiff base ligands similar to the (acac)2en ligands. These ligands will be synthesized and their structures confirmed via nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Once the structure and purity of the ligands are confirmed the metal complexes will be synthesized using several transition metals and characterized again via NMR. These metal complexes will then be tested for anti-proliferative activity against seven microbes, including four bacteria strains, two yeast strains, and one mold strain. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) will be determined for the metal complexes. These complexes are expected to show biological activity with different microorganisms.
