Phenalene is an interesting organic compound with three fused rings.  This project investigates the bonding patterns of phenalene as a ligand bonded to metals. Results of a theoretical study will be presented as well as our efforts to synthesize some of these compounds.  The theoretical calculations on bis(phenalenyl) complexes showed, that when bonded onto different metals from 2nd group to 12nd group metals, the shape and structure of the computed sandwich metal complex modify dramatically along the periodic table.
