A series of silyl-hydride compounds of molybdenum and tungsten have been obtained via oxidative addition of Si�H bonds to electron-rich trimethylphosphine compounds of these metals.  For example, Mo(PMe3)4(SiH3)2H2 may be obtained from the reaction of SiH4 with Mo(PMe3)6.  PhSiH3, Ph2SiH2 and Ph3SiH also react with Mo(PMe3)6, but the products obtained depend critically on the nature of the silane.
