Both education and chemistry have strong impacts on our life and our future. Chemical education plays a vital role in fostering students' science literacy. Currently Macau is undergoing a series of education reforms to establish a sustainable education system. General chemistry is a part of the core subject in natural sciences and general education. However, in Macau, research on chemistry, chemical education and general education is only in the infant stage. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the general education chemistry course and to analyze the characteristics of chemistry.
