Prior research has shown that students have a difficult time conceptually understanding how enzymes interact with other molecules. Scaffolded active learning activities have been shown to help build conceptual understanding. Therefore, the goal of this project was to develop an activity that specifically addressed the conceptual ideas of how temperature, pH and concentration influenced enzymatic activity and also the different types of enzyme inhibition. The activity which is designed following a guided-inquiry approach is scaffolded in a way to be applicable to various levels of biochemistry instruction. Questions from the Enzyme-Substrate Interactions Concept Inventory along with additional free response questions were used to determine the impact the activity had on students' conceptual understanding. Results will be presented from multiple administrations of the activity across various levels of biochemistry instruction.
