With a growing demand for biobased solutions to industrial problems, it is essential to have an understanding of how biosciences and engineering complement each other: each discipline provides different ways to harness the biology potential. The biosciences help understand how biomolecules work together in a bioreactor, e.g. metabolic pathways, and the engineering disciplines enable bioprocessing by making use of mass and energy balances, kinetics, thermodynamics, etc . This presentation will exemplify how biology and chemical engineering have helped to advance the BioIsoprene� project towards commercialization.
