During the past decade numerous anions have been observed in the interstellar medium. Since 1990, this laboratory has identified and characterized multiple excited states of anions using experimental, theoretical, and correlational methods. These include thermal, electrochemical and photon methods, quantum mechanical calculations, estimates of solvation energies, and a new method of predicting anion dissociation energies  based on the electron affinity of the hydrogen atom. Examples of data for anions of the main group atoms, homonuclear and heteronuclear diatomic anions, sulfur flourides,, and aromatic hydrocarbons are presented.  Multiple potential energy curves for nitric oxide and  molecular oxygen anions predicted from the Mulliken Hund Rules are calculated from experimental data.
