Nanocomposites represent an important class of nanomaterials and a research area in which fascinating developments have been achieved in the past decade. One of current major challenges in the synthesis of nanocomposites deals with the design and controlled preparation of a suitable structure with ideally various functions (e.g. catalytic, magnetic, electronic and/or optical properties) as well as biocompatible surface functionalities of low toxicity and high stability that can find a range of versatile applications[1].Catalyst recovery and reuse are in fact two most important features for many (nano)catalytic processes, and most heterogeneous systems require a filtration or centrifugation step and/or a tedious workup of the final reaction mixture to recover the catalyst. Magnetically supported catalysts can be recovered with an external magnet due to ferrimagnetic character of the support, resulting in remarkable catalyst recovery without the need for a filtration step; the catalysts can be subsequently reused in another cycle.Following recent research endeavours from the group in the preparation of magnetically separable materials, herein we report a simple and straightforward synthetic mechanochemical protocol for the preparation of magnetically separable functional nanocomposites with applications in heterogeneous catalysis[2, 3]including C-C coupling reactions.[1] V.
