Photocatalysis, an important green techonlogy, can utilize solar energy to driven chemical reacion toward clean fuel production, CO2 conversion and environment remediation. TiO2 is widely used photocatalyst because of it's cheap, chemical stability and nontoxicity. However, its efficiency is still very low due to the rapid charge (photo-induced electrons and holes) recombination on the surface or interface. To solve this problem, we focus on the enhancement of interface and surface charge transfer of TiO2 by materials engineering. We switched the adsorption mode of dyes on TiO2 from monodentate linkage to electrostatic interaction and significantly promoted the dye-sensitization under visible light by enhancing the charge transfer from excited dyes to TiO2. We illustrated the morphology evolution of TiO2 facets and demonstrated the vital influence of surface adsorption, porous structure and synergy of different facets on the photocatalytic activity. Then we fabricated quantum dots self-decorated {001} exposed TiO2 to provide new charge transfer pathway and avoid the surface recombination. We also constructed W18O49/TiO2 hybrid that shows remarkably high photocatalytic activity and stability, attributed to the well-matched band levels between W18O49 and TiO2that allowing photo-induced electrons and holes transfer in opposite directions and be restrained in different semiconductors.[1].
