Chemical expertise demand was characterized by examining employment advertisements for chemistry positions. The employment opportunities were categorized by experience and type of degree requested for the applicant as well as the specific chemical and analytical technique expertise.   The intent of this work is to provide a snapshot of the knowledge, skills, and abilities that employers need from chemistry graduates.  This chemical expertise demand inventory will provide insight into what areas of chemical expertise need to be included in the curriculum and the relative emphasis of each.  It is expected that this inventory will be particularly useful for identifying the range of topics for undergraduate instrumental analysis courses.
