Trimetallic nitride and dimetallic sulfide endohedral clusterfullerenes exhibit a wide variety of carbon cage sizes and symmetries. Perfect complementarity exists between the size, shape and electronic properties between the encapsulated clusters and the surrounding cages, which in turn lead to the overall prperties of the compounds. Little has been reported about the acceptor properties of these compounds in Organic Photovoltaic (OPV) applications, but a derivative of Lu?3?N@C?80? was shown to exhibit a photoconversion efficiency as high as 4.6% in bulk heterojunction solar cells. New compounds and derivatives will be presented and their properties discussed.
