An efficient flow synthesis of cyclic carbonates starting directly from olefins and CO2 has been achieved. The flow synthesis was integrated into a hydroxybromination-carboxylation two-step sequential transformation, which represents a successful example of a multi-stage gas/liquid continuous flow process. Specifically, incompatible reagents were introduced easily without interacting with each other (such as NBS and DBU), thus significantly enhancing the reaction rate, especially for aliphatic olefins.
