In the past decade Raman spectroscopy has become an increasingly important tool for the in-situ characterisation of SOFC systems1. This non-invasive, chemically specific optical analysis tool is capable of providing detailed information regarding material concentrations, phases and oxidation states within operational SOFCs in real time.  Much of this information is highly complementary to that obtained from the more usual large scale electrochemical characterisation and ex-situ analysis techniques such as SEM as well as computational models.
