Wolverine Energy Solutions and Technologies (WEST) is a small business focused on the development of materials and devices which have high energy and power storage capability. Energy storage materials have played a key role in many pulsed power systems used in the military, medical and automotive industries and  they have received intense attention from both academia and industry. Although important advances have been made in popular energy storage technologies such as batteries and super-capacitors, significant scientific and technological barriers to the real implementation of novel energy storage approaches still exist. With the rapid increase in the rate of our nation's energy consumption, the development of new approaches and materials is highly desirable. Some of the criteria that any energy storage approach is compared against include the maximum power density and efficiency, the specific energy density, and the manufacturing cost. In this presentation WEST Inc. will introduce new materials and devices and their translation to commercialization. The process of manufacturing of the devices for specific applications will be discussed. These advances will be put in to the context of the cost of producing our nation's next energy storage devices.
