The University of Utah ACS Student Chapter is a group dedicated to exciting and educating youth about science. Three chapter projects will be highlighted: an Environmental Awareness Campaign, outreach to K-12 students in the valley and the Science Show at Primary Children's Hospital. With the assistance of an Innovative Activities Grant from the National ACS, the chapter has partnered with local high schools with the goal of educating students about environmental issues that are especially important in our region. Members will visit schools to perform demonstrations and conduct experiments with the students. The group is also very active in outreach efforts aimed at helping children find passion and fun in science and promoting the idea that their unique minds could create amazing improvements for our future. The chapter visits with youth around the Salt Lake Valley and on the University of Utah campus. At these events young kids are able to involve themselves in hands on chemistry experiments as well as see more difficult reactions taking place right before their eyes. One special outreach event that the group participates in is the Science Show at Primary Children's Hospital. This show features demonstrations and hands on activities that patients and family members are invited to participate in. In addition, the show is broadcast live throughout the hospital to reach those patients that are not well enough to attend. The poster will discuss the details and results of these activities.
