The University of Arizona Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society aims to foster passion for science, promote the importance of higher education, and provide professional growth to members. Chapter meetings incorporate an invitational speaker series where guests from academia and industry can present research, networking opportunities, and insight to our members. The speaker series and our Household Hazardous Waste volunteer program, in which members sort and collect environmentally harmful waste, highlight the chapter's �green chemistry� efforts. Additional chapter outreach includes aiding the University's recruitment process, and performing Chemistry Magic Shows for our local community. Additionally, our chapter has helped pioneer a �Chemistry Discovery� program that invites middle school students to our campus to engage in hands-on activities with university students as activity station leaders. The chapter makes a conscious effort to participate in charity work, including charity walks, donation of tutoring hours, and donation of materials to fellow outreach organizations. Chapter members have presented at several ACS National Meetings and are proud recipients of the Outstanding Chapter, Commendable Chapter and the Green Chemistry Awards for the 2008-2009, 2009-2010, 2010-2011, 2011-2012, and 2012-2013 school years. Chapter members also regularly enjoy social events, such as bowling, barbecues, and the SAACS Fiesta at the semester's end, which help to encourage friendships between club members.
