Over the course of a year, the ACS student chapter at South Texas College has successfully planned and executed many outreach and community service projects. The Chemistry Club's 'The Traveling Chemists' have visited over 15 schools or venues to perform science experiments to over 5,000 students in the South Texas Rio Grande Valley region. Through these demos, the chapter hopes to increase the interest of science in young students. Our ACS chapter also participated in many community service activities: many of the members volunteered to judge at science fairs, celebrated National Chemistry Week, participated at the Spooky Science Fest and celebrated Nano Days. We also participated in several highway clean-ups via Keep McAllen Beautiful (a local liter prevention organization), raised money for National Breast Cancer Awareness, helped with canned food and toy drives during the holiday season, and engaged in many Green Chemistry and Earth Day events.
