The Next Generation Project integrates the use of computer simulations with several pedagogies: POGIL, SWH, and GAG. 'Before Class Explorations' helps teachers identify which topics their students find difficult so they can place emphasis on the topics needing the most work.  �During Class Inventions� are guided-inquiry POGIL-like classroom activities designed to help students gain a better understanding of concepts.  The Science Writing Heuristic helps teachers teach using guided-inquiry and students learn using guided-inquiry in the laboratory. Using a learning cycle, students can improve their model and understanding of chemical concepts. Students working in groups can collect, analyze, and graph data. The pooled data and graphs help students see a pattern. Instructors then introduce a concept. Students can do problems incorporating a higher-level application of the model. Thus, the learning cycle plays a central role in the design of tutorials. Computer simulations can help students structure and to carry out an experimental design to answer a question. Computer simulations can also include visualizations of the behavior of matter at the particulate level. Combining POGIL, SWH, and GAG helps create an active learning environment for students. This presentation will provide examples of how the combined approach works and how this approach benefits students.
