In this study, co-combustion of organic sludge with coal has been investigated in a pilot scale-0.1MW circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler with a sludge fraction up to 20wt.%. Combustion and boiler efficiency of co-combustions was about 98~99% and 82~83%, respectively. Water content of sludges slightly reduces the efficiencies. Proximate and ultimate analysis of tested sludges (sewage, dye, livestock and alcohol) was carried out and the ash content was 43, 31, 7.5 and 30 wt%, respectively. Both N and S content of livestock sludge were highest and outlet concentration of NOx and SOx was about 250ppm and 100ppm, respectively. Concentrations of heavy metals were ranged to 0.001~5.8 ?/Nm3, which was below the emission standards of Korea. Considering the air pollution control equipments of power plants, co-combustion of organic sludges can be allowed by 20wt.%.
