Glycerol hydrogenolysis could convert glycerol into propanediols (PD, including 1,2-PD and 1,3-PD), which are value-added materials and could be used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals industry and so on. Addition effect of Re component and Pd-Re bi-component catalysts are investigated in present study. The supported Ru catalysts (SBA15, Al2O3, TiO2, CeO2, etc) were prepared by impregnation method and characterized with BET, XRD, TPR and XPS. The reaction was reacted at 8 MPa H2, 200 oC for 18 h.From the reaction results of glycerol hydrogenolysis, the conversion of glycerol over mono-component Pd or Re catalyst was very low (all below 5%). After addition of Re, the activity of modified Pd catalysts increased a lot. When the content of Re increased to 1%, the conversion of glycerol increased up to 10.2% and the selectivity to 1,2-PD and 1,3-PD increased up to 77.5% and 5.2%, respectively. As the content of Re increased from 1% to 10%, the conversion of glycerol continually increased up to 45.1%, but the selectivity to 1,2-PD decreased into 49.6%, while the selectivity to 1-PO increased up to 38.7%. The content of Re influenced a little on the selectivity to 1,3-PD. From TPR results, the reduction behaviors of bi-component Pd-Re catalysts were different from mono-component Pd or Re catalyst. The reduction temperatures of Re/SBA15 and Pd/SBA15 were centered at 330 oC and 30 oC, respectively, while for Pd-Re/SBA15, the reduction peaks appeared at 30 oC, 130 oC and 220 oC. From XPS spectra of Pd-Re/SBA15, the BE values of Pd3d became higher, but BE values of Re4f became lower, indicating the electron transfer from Pd to Re. From these results it is suggested that interaction between Pd and Re would affect the activation barrier of C-O bond and make the activity of Pd-Re higher in glycerol hydrogenolysis.Acknowledgement:  NNFSC (20973098, 21033004)
