Due to steroids have great biological importance; they have great interest by many researchers more than two centuries. By the way dimeric and oligomeric steroids represent similar properties. Some dimeric steroids may act as ligand, miscellar, detergent,transmembrane ion channel, dienophile and liquid crystal behavior. Dimeric steroids can be connected via rings in the steroid nucleus or through the side chains. In most examples found in the literature, the connection between the units involves a labile bond such as an amine,ether, amide, or ester moiety. Also they can be synthesized by using olefin metathesis reactions. In this work, we synthesized symmetrical and asymmetrical tailor made dimers beginning from cholesterol or cholestanol. First step was obtaining sterol's esters which were synthesized from cholesterol or cholestanol with reacted acyl halide and then linking of two sterol esters with each other by using 2nd generation Grubbs catalysts. Eight new ester-linked dimeric steroids which are including symmetrical and asymmetrical dimers were synthesized. Also one of the esters was reported as a new compound. The compounds were analyzed by using 1H, 13C, DEPT NMR, IR and Mass spectroscopy.
