The trifluoromethyl group is increasingly utilized in pharmaceutical design to enhance drug efficacy and biostability. Enantioselective nucleophilic trifluoromethylation of carbonyl groups to give trifluoromethyl alcohols is an attractive strategy for the incorporation of trifluoromethyl groups, although enantioselectivity can be difficult to achieve. Recent work has shown that peptoids are viable as chiral catalysts for enantioselective transformations. Herein we present our progress toward developing a chiral peptoid catalyst for the enantioselective trifluoromethylation of carbonyl groups.
