Cubic M8L6 metallocages have recently been synthesized from tetraminoporphyrin, pyridyl aldehyde, and Fe(II).  The complexes feature a large (1400�3) void space with small (<1�) pore size.  They were also found to selectively bind a stack of three coronenes.   Additionally, these same metallocages are chiral in that they contain 8 homochiral Fe(II) centers.  Given the cage's affinity for large aromatic compounds we reasoned chiral helicenes will also be readily encapsulated.  In order to investigate the cages ability for chiral recognition, we report on the synthesis of 5-helicene and the M8L6 metallocage and their interaction.
