Cyclo-bis(2-amino-4,7-dialkylindan-2-carboxylic acids) 1  were prepared and the thermochemical properties measured and compared to those of cyclo-bis(2-amino-4,7-dialkoxyindan-2-carboxylic acids) 2 . Where possible, crystal packing was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The results and possible implications for engineering liquid crystal materials will be discussed.
