A novel analytical method for four organoarsenical feed additives (i.e. arsanilic acid, carbarsone, nitarsone, and roxarsone) in deionized water, river water, and chicken manure extract was developed and validated.  The method employs offline solid phase extraction with liquid chromatography � electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (SPE-LC-ESI-MS/MS).  Mixed mode (reversed phase and anion exchange) SPE cartridges were used for extraction of organoarsenicals.  Recovery rates were generally 70-120%.  LC separation of organoarsenicals was achieved on a 150 mm C18 column using an isocratic elution gradient (methanol and 0.1% formic acid; 3:97, v:v) with a 40�C column temperature and 0.5 mL/min flow rate.  Arsanilic acid, carbarsone, nitarsone, and roxarsone were measured at 250-270nm using a UV-DAD detector.  Additionally, an MS/MS method was developed in positive mode with a collision pressure of 1.5mTorr and variable collision energy (14-22 V).  The MS/MS transitions for arsanilic acid, carbarsone, nitarsone, and roxarsone were 217.9?109.1, 261.0?243.8, 248.0?202.0, and 264.0?245.9, respectively; retention times for the four organoarsenicals were between 3 and 15 minutes.
