It has been shown recently that many anions are capable of supporting electronically excited states.  Typically these have been limited to a single dipole-bound state allowed to exist barely below the electron removal threshold.  The dipole moment of the resulting neutral radical binds the electron to the molecule and maintains the molecular integrity.  A smaller set of anions has exhibited an additional valence state.  As a result, anions are an excellent choice for exploring potential carriers of unattributed absorption spectra.  In this work we are using quantum chemical computations to further explore electronically excited states of several small anions in order to generate predictive data as to when an anion will possess a valence state in addition to its dipole bound state.
