Mixed benzidmiazole/thioether tripodal ligands act as tri- and tetradentate (N2S and N3S) donors in their corresponding Cu complexes. The ligands were designed based on the bis(histidine)/methionine donors present in the active sites of PHM and D�M, both of which selectively hydroxylate unactivated C-H bonds. The reactions of the corresponding Cu(I) complexes with O2 and their capability to activate C-H bonds of model substrates will be discussed.
