Carbon dioxide represents a readily available carbon synthon which is highly abundant, non-toxic, and inexpensive.  The production of acrylates from the coupling of CO2 with ethylene at transition metals could substantially expand the utilization of carbon dioxide as a renewable feedstock.  With this interest, a series of zerovalent molybdenum complexes bearing phosphine ligands have been synthesized and evaluated for reductive functionalization of CO2 and ethylene.  Efforts toward reductive elimination of acrylate products from molybdenum will also be discussed.
