The academic mission of the Department of Chemistryand Biochemistry at Texas Woman's University (TWU) is to train our majors the contentknowledge and skills they need to be successful in their future careers,whether that be graduate school, teaching or a job in the industry.  Equally important, though, is our goal toteach students social responsibility as scientists. The incorporation of greenchemistry principles and practices into the undergraduate chemistry curriculumis one area where we can fulfill our goals. It is our contention  that ourchemistry and biochemistry majors need to learn about green chemistry early in theiracademic careers since they will be the ones carrying the torch in the next 20to 40 years. To this end, our department is taking an active role in introducingthe principles and practices of green chemistry in the undergraduate organicchemistry laboratory � an ideal setting for this initiative.  To do this, we needed a library of resourceswhich can help us decide what can and what cannot be done at ourinstitution.  In the summer of 2013, wesent an undergraduate student to the Green Chemistry and Engineering Conferenceto participate in a green chemistry work shop for students and to learn whatothers have done through the various sessions of the conference.  The student returned with a preliminary listof resources and, more importantly, inspiration to do more.  Additional research in the past year by thisstudent has generated an excellent resource list. As a result, we now have a viablelist of green experiments that have been incorporated into the organiclaboratory setting. This process is an example of civic engagement since thegoal of green chemistry is to carry out chemical processes that are moreenvironmentally friendly
