Effects of surfactants on the performance of Co nano-particles for Fishcher-Tropsch synthesis Feng Guo, Botao Teng, Maohong Fan*Department of Chemical & Petroleum Engineering, University of Wyoming, Laramie, WY 82071, USAWith the depletion of worldwide crude oil resources, Fischer�Tropsch synthesis (FTS) used for conversion of syngas to hydrocarbons and oxygenates, becomes an alternative route to meet the continuously increasing demand for liquid fuels and chemical feedstock. High attention has been paid to development of cobalt-based Nano catalysts, which have better FTS synthesis performance than conventional counterparts. In this work, it is very interesting to find that surfactants (PVP and OA) have significant effects on the catalytic activity and selectivity of Co Nano-particles in FTS. The activity of Co nano-particles suspending in aqueous OA solution are up to 3.47�10-7 molCO/(gCo.s) at 453 K, much higher than that in PVP solution [1.48�10-7 mol-CO/(g-Co.s)]. The differences are analyzed with the changes in the characteristics of Nano Co particles, as observed with transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray diffractions.
