Our bodies are complex, dynamic systems that in certain instances need remedial agents to restore their normal healthy functioning.  The biggest challenge in those instances is to maximize the therapeutic effects of an agent for a specific diagnosis in a manner that properly maintains, or helps to restore, complementary body system functions and processes.  This requires learning to know and understand as much as possible about the multiple interactions and internal individual control mechanisms that define the system as an integrated, multi-component unit.  This talk will describe our efforts and what we have learned over the past ten years to develop simple, low-cost inorganic remedial agents, including layered clays, for point-of-care therapeutic treatment of the external and internal bleeding that results from traumatic injuries.
