Palladium-catalyzed carbonylative couplings have received considerable attention in recent years as these transformations can generally be performed under mild conditions and often display high functional group tolerance. In this presentation, we describe our recent work on the development of the Pd-catalyzed carbonylative a-arylation for the synthesis of �-keto esters and 1,3-diketones from the monoester potassium malonates and acetylacetone, respectively. The carbonylation reaction relies on the use of stoichiometric amounts of carbon monoxide, generated in situ applying a double chamber system, which makes this approach highly adaptable for the introduction of carbon isotopes.
